Early disease has no symptoms
By the time vision drops from diabetic retinopathy, changes have often been present for some time. Annual dilated screening, supported by OCT where indicated, allows treatment to begin at a stage when vision can still be protected.
What screening involves
Vision testing, dilated retinal examination, retinal imaging and OCT when required. The visit takes longer than a routine check because dilation is essential; please arrange transport home.
