There is no single best procedure
Patients often arrive in Jaipur having already decided on a procedure they have read about online. The evaluation frequently shows that a different technique fits their cornea better. The safest procedure is the one supported by your own measurements.
Corneal thickness, corneal topography and tomography, refractive power and stability, pupil size, tear film quality and retinal health all influence the recommendation.
What the pre-operative work-up measures
A complete specs removal evaluation includes cycloplegic refraction, corneal tomography, pachymetry, pupillometry, dry eye assessment and a dilated retinal examination. For lens-based options such as the Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL), anterior chamber depth and endothelial cell count are also measured.
When lens-based correction is discussed
Very high refractive errors, thinner corneas or borderline topography may make corneal laser procedures inadvisable. In these situations an ICL may be discussed, provided the anterior segment measurements are suitable. After the age of 40, refractive lens exchange may be more appropriate.
