Keratoconus: early signs young patients should not ignore

Perfect Vision Editorial Team · Medically reviewed by Dr. Virendra Agrawal · 5 min read · 2026-02-14

Why early detection changes the plan

Keratoconus progresses most often in the teenage years and twenties. When it is detected early on corneal topography, cross-linking may be advised with the aim of limiting progression before vision is significantly affected.

Eye rubbing matters

Persistent eye rubbing, frequently linked to allergy, is strongly associated with keratoconus progression. Treating the underlying allergy is part of care.
